Federal Foreign Office
Working to promote Germany’s interests worldwide
The Federal Foreign Office represents Germany’s interests in the world and maintains Germany’s relations with other countries. When it comes to foreign policy, it is of central importance for Germany to uphold and strengthen the international order and multilateralism in line with current rules with the primordial aim of promoting peace. The Antarctic Treaty is a prime example of successful international cooperation and a milestone in efforts to create a multilateral global order. Given the challenges posed by climate change and geopolitical developments, the Federal Foreign Office works to ensure the Antarctic Treaty system is maintained as a binding consensus.
In close coordination and cooperation with the relevant line ministries, the Federal Foreign Office represents Germany’s position at the Antarctic Treaty Consultative Meetings. It is responsible for hosting the Antarctic Treaty Consultative Meeting in Berlin in 2022.
